PreK

This is our older preschool classroom. The children in this class
range in age from 4 to 5 years old. They are working very hard on
Pre-Kindergarten skills such as recognizing and writing the letters
of the alphabet and their names, counting, pre-reading skills
incorporating sight words, identifying colors and shapes, etc. A
typical day for the Leaping Lizards is similar to that of the Zany
Zebras with more emphasis placed on ABC's and number skills.

At the end of the year, we hold a graduation ceremony bidding our
Pre-Kindergarteners farewell and good luck as they enter a new
phase in their lives. This is always a fun yet tearful event for all.

*Morning and afternoon circle time: introduction to the theme
of the week, letter of the week, songs, stories, finger plays,
calendar & weather, colors and shapes
*Art: The children enjoy daily art projects that enhance the
theme or letter of the week
*Science/cooking: The children are free to explore the science
center where you can visit a bug or two that has been
collected from outside, play with a tornado tube, look
through binoculars, etc. The children are involved in a
cooking project at least once a week which incorporates
measuring, tasting, etc.
*Spanish: Spanish is introduced 3 times per week. The
children are learning their numbers, colors, alphabet, basic
phrases, animals, etc. You'd be surprised at how easily they
learn!
*Computer time: The children have time each day to play
educational games on the computer
*Story time: New and exciting stories are introduced every
day, and our local librarian visits monthly.
*Center time/free play: Dress-up, family living, barbies,
blocks, cars, puzzles, table-top manipulatives, science
center, computer, library, etc. Whatever they choose, they
have a ball!
*Music & movement: The children are encouraged to dance,
run, hop, gallop, and exercise daily through fun
teacher-directed games and acitivities.
*Recess: The children enjoy two outdoor play times daily.
They are free to explore the swings, slides, bikes, climbers
and balls or just run around on the 1/2 acre playground.
*Nap time/quiet time: from 1pm to 3pm daily
*Breakfast, snacks, and lunch are served daily.
